Dearest Readers -

And just like that, in the blink of an eye, the fall semester at the Neighborhood Art house came to a close! But not before the eagerly anticipated fall showcase, where parents, friends, and community members gathered to witness the blossoming talents of the young students. Piano, “Silent Night,” instructor Linda Kobler

The showcase began as the two young students took their place at the piano. Their fingers danced across the keys, each one of them played a classical masterpiece with a maturity beyond their years. A lovely melody filled the room, leaving the audience in awe of their talent.

Percussion, “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder, Instructor Liz Alward

Next up was the percussion ensemble. The rhythmic beats of drums and tambourines boomed throughout the Art House, creating an infectious energy that had everyone tapping their feet. The young drummers displayed their skills with a dynamic performance that left the audience craving more.

Tap, “Salute” by Little Mix, Instructor Kelly Stolar

The dancers captivated the audience with a symphony of rhythmic footwork. Each tap beat with precision and flair, creating a performance that transcended the boundaries of traditional dance. The routine culminated weeks of learning proper technique inherent in tap dance, showcasing the performers’ mastery of timing, musicality, and creative choreography.

Hoop, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” by Pentatonix and “Courant d’air” by Rene Aubry, Instructor Jen Dennehy

The dancers, armed with a collection of gracefully twirling hoops, created intricate patterns and dynamic shapes that painted the air. They effortlessly manipulated their hoops in a mesmerizing display of skill and precision. The hoop performance was a celebration of movement, leaving the audience spellbound by this unique art form.

Violin, “The Picnic Story,” Instructor Mary Moser

The young violinists delivered a heartwarming rendition of “The Picnic Story.”  The moving harmony of violins resonated through the room, capturing the hearts of everyone present. Every note, echoed with emotion, showcased the students' unparalleled dedication to learning the violin.

Ballet, “Marzipan” from the Nutcracker, Instructor Larisa Melondinskaia

The dancers floated gracefully across the floor, telling a story of joy and wonder. The audience couldn't help but be awe-struck by the beauty that unfolded before their eyes. It was the perfect song and dance for this special time of year.

Contemporary dance, “Swordfish” by Nic D. and Conner Price and “What They’ll Say About Us” by Finneas, Instructor Mia Adelhardt

The choreography, a fusion of various dance styles and artistic influences, evolved like a visual poem, conveying a narrative that was both thought-provoking and poignant. The music, carefully chosen to complement the contemporary choreography, served as a driving force that propelled the narrative forward.

Step, “What It Is” by Doechii, Instructor Latisha Moffett

The crescendo of the evening came as the dancers stomped, clapped, and shouted their way through dynamic choreography that married tradition with contemporary flair. The physicality and athleticism of the dancers, combined with the infectious stage performance, made the routine exhilarating.  It displayed skill, unity, and the power of collective rhythm.

As the final notes sounded and the performers took their bows, the audience erupted in thunderous applause. The afterschool program had not only nurtured talent but had also fostered a sense of community and a deeper appreciation for the arts.
