Erie Insurance, major funder for the Neighborhood Art House for 20+ years, has once again stepped forward to donate $85,000 in support of the visual arts program and our current visibility project.

We are deeply grateful to Erie Insurance's Media Services team who spent many hours volunteering their talents to create an informative video for the Neighborhood Art House. Ed Bernik, a member of the Art House Marketing Committee, headed up the project and served as Creative Director. Other members of the team include Mandy Layne, who served as Producer, Jason Stewart, Videographer , Mike Grimm, Editor, and Jenn Cassano, Graphics.

Welcome to our Circle sang the children just as they do every day before they begin their classes.

Upwards of three hundred Neighborhood Art House supporters joined the faculty and children to celebrate this year's Taste of the Arts. Many took advantage of the opportunity to mingle with the children who offered musical selections on piano or violin, described the various framed art pieces for sale, or demonstrated what they were learning in some of their classes.

Dylan Stevens claimed his prize painted by Rickimarie, age 8, after taking first place overall at this year's Art & Sole. He, like so many of those who won children's art prizes, find these treasures to be so much more meaningful than trophies or medals. In the first picture in the album below, Dylan accomplished the 5k race with a time of 16:03; Rosie's time was 19:48. Amazing! The full results can be found www.runhigh.com.

Families flocked to the Art House for both the Spring Recital and the Spring Open House. Both annual gatherings are opportunities for the children to share the fruit of the classes they have taken over the Winter/Spring term. Did you ever hear the hoot of an owl or watch a swooping raptor in search of prey? The children could tell you about these majestic birds after educators from Tamarack Wildlife Refuge brought their “ambassadors” to visit the Art House. These birds are not able to be released due to their severe injuries. After a demonstration of how the rodent population would expand exponentially without predators, the students met Sophia, a barred owl; Lady, a peregrine falcon; and Jasper and Willow, screech owls with different colorations.

A lively and well-attended Open House closed out the Fall 2017 session with a flourish.
